While attending Plymouth State University in the 1970’s, Bud Crane worked for his father and brother in the summers supervising jobs and doing site work. After working in the construction industry, Bud was motivated to start his own business due to his frustration with the quality of workmanship and the timeliness of others.
With the belief that you should “do what you tell people you are going to do” Bud Crane founded Andrews Construction Co., Inc. in 1978. He started with a used single axle dump truck, trailer and bulldozer. He hired an “old timer” with a backhoe as a subcontractor and they worked on many jobs together. In the beginning, Bud focused on excavation and backfill on house sites. Bud started a site work company because as he said, “I was around vertical construction enough to know I like it, but I really like to start with the dirt. I like looking at what you can create – look at the lot – look at the site and create something – kind of like painting a picture.”
As the years passed and demand increased, Andrews Construction expanded to include a concrete and landscape design and installation division. With the new divisions, Andrews Construction offered customers and contractors the ability to deal with one company instead of three for a job. Throughout Andrews’ growth, Bud has stayed committed to the principles of quality work, timeliness, integrity and safety.
